BSNL has revised M2M/ IoT Tariff recently but before discussing it, let us know what is M2M/ IoT. Machine-to-machine (M2M) communication is a concept where two or more machines communicate with each other without human interaction using a wired or wireless mechanism. M2M is a technology that helps devices connect between devices without using the internet. M2M communications offer several applications such as security, tracking, and tracing, manufacturing, and facility management.
The Internet of Things (IoT) is the system where things (devices/ equipment etc) in large numbers are connected with each other through the Internet and can interact with each other by using the Internet.
M2M/ IoT has many applications in various sectors including Automotive vehicle tracking systems, Consumer Electronics, Consumer Goods, SIM-based Advertisements in Luxury Buses, Energy & Utilities (SIM-based smart meter), Financial Services, Health (Smart ambulance), Manufacturing, Public Services, Security, Transport & Logistics, etc.
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) in partnership with Unlimit Ink, Sensorise, Skylotech India (Skylo), etc is offering end-to-end connectivity for M2M / IoT solutions. Almost all such application uses embedded e-SIM.
M2M/ IoT tariff plans
BSNL is offering special M2M/ IoT tariff plans, prepaid and postpaid, applicable for M2M/ IoT e-SIM cards as follows

In addition to the above M2M/ IoT tariff plans, the following additional charges are applicable
- Outgoing voice calls on on-net and off-net: 30p per minute
- SMS after consuming free SMS limit on on-net: 15p per SMS
- SMS off-net: 15p per SMS
- Data charges after free usage: 1p/10KB
- Roaming Charges in the BSNL service area is Nil
- Roaming Charges outside the BSNL service area are chargeable as applicable to individual BSNL customers.
- Allows pooling of Data / SMS benefits available with IoT / M2M SIMs, where the choice is optional, and for allowing pooled data SMS benefit, a 10% surcharge on plan charges of above to be levied.
- The pooling of benefits amount to different plans (Plan IoT1 & IoT2) is now allowed.
- The minimum Hire Period is One Year
M2M/ IoT SIM International Roaming charges
- FMC of Rs. 99 without GST per SIM for activation/ extension of international roaming facility for postpaid customers.
- FMC For Prepaid:
- Rs.57 for East, West, North Zones, and AP / Tamilnadu
- Rs.56 for Karnataka
- Rs.58 for Kerala
- All the International Roaming usage charges for prepaid & postpaid are extra as applicable to individual customers.
- Surcharge on Inter Operator Tariff (IOT) rates agreed with various foreign operators shall be applicable in the case of IoT / M2M SIMs.
- If BSNL provides a physical M2M / IoT SIM, an amount of Rs.10 per SIM will be taken from the customer.
All the above terms & conditions and service tariff related to BSNL M2M/ IoT tariff is common for all circles in India.
