BSNL discontinues URL based Whatsapp and Facebook data packs

BSNL Postpaid customers of north and BSNL_imagesouth telecom circles were enjoying special data pack for Facebook and Whatsapp since 11 June 2014 and 1 Aug 2014 respectively but now these special data would not be available in these telecom circles because, to comply TRAI’s  prohibition of discriminatory tariffs for data services regulations, 2016 regulation, BSNL has announced to withdraw these special URL based data packs on immediate basis.

These data packs were offering 200MB of free data to access Whatsapp at just Rs 30 while customers were getting 250MB free data to access Facebook and Twitter for Rs 40. After consuming these free data allowance, customers had to pay @1p/10KB for additional data used for these social media apps.

To comply TRAI’s  prohibition of discriminatory tariffs for data services regulations, 2016 regulation, Airtel have also discontinued its Rs 36 data pack specially designed to access Whatsapp
