Last updated on March 28th, 2023 at 03:04 am

Australia has three national major mobile operators, Telstra, Optus, and Vodafone which offer all telecom solutions. Telstra is the largest mobile operator and offers data services on 4G and 5G. Optus is the second largest mobile operator which also offers data service on both 4G & 5G while Vodafone, being the third mobile operator, is yet to start 4G services.

Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNO) model is also prevailing in Australia and these MVNOs don’t have their own network but have bulk access to main mobile operators at wholesale rates and may offer the services at discounted rates to customers in retail.

Comparison of Data Plans from Telstra, Australia with its MVNOs

Let us compare quickly the rates offered by the main mobile operator Telstra and its main MVNOs which are offering data services in Australia.

Telstra: If you have your own gadget and want the SIM only then Telstra has great affordable data packs starting from 2 GB for $10 with 7 days validity. Currently, it is offering a 30GB data plan for $15 only with 28 days of validity at an almost 50% discount from its regular price.

ALDI Mobile: This MVNO unveiled a data plan just a few months back and a plan of $35 which offers 42GB of data along with unlimited voice, voicemail, SMS, and MMS. The plan has 30 days expiry If we compare it with Telstra, this plan is somehow cheaper but $6 more expensive than Kogan Mobile’s unlimited plan.

Boost Mobile: This MVNO offers a whole pack of voice, text, and data and offers two prepaid SIM cards with 28 days of validity. The 45 GB data plan is priced at $30 but currently, it is available at $9 only while the 60GB data plan costs $40.

Kogan Mobile: This offers the ever cheapest data plan 10GB data plan costs just $5 for the first month and thereafter $15 per month and 40GB for merely $10 for the first month and thereafter $25 per month. The annual plan of $120 offers 120GB of data.

Think mobile: For a moderate user, this MVNO has an ultimate plan, a plan of 5GB monthly costs $30. Another data plan offers 10GB of data per month and costs $180 for six months. If you can pay for 12 months, you can get up to 20GB per month which will cost $360 for 12 months.

For a moderate user, Kogan mobile offers the cheapest data plan and for heavy data users, the data plan offered by Boost Mobile is the best and most economical one.
