AT&T has just now kicked off new international rate plans, calling “Passport” suitable for internatinal travellers covering 150 countries. Three Passport plans have been introduced namely — Passport, Passport Plus and Passport Pro — that offer unlimited messaging, some high speed data and some free talk minutes as per following:
- Passport: Price $30 offers unlimited messages, unlimited Wi-Fi data, 120MB high speed cellular data, overage charges $0.25/MB cellular data and voice call at the rate of $1.00/min.
- Passport Plus: Price $60 offers unlimited messages, unlimited Wi-Fi data, 300MB high speed cellular data, overage charges $0.20/MB cellular data and voice call at the rate of $0.50/min.
- Passport Pro: Price $120 offers unlimited messages, unlimited Wi-Fi data, 800MB high speed cellular data, overage charges $0.15/MB cellular data and voice call at the rate of $0.35/min.
All above plans have 30 days validity and will expire automatically, meaning that you don’t need to be worry about canceling anything when you get back from your trip.
Above rates are quite expensive if we compare with T-Mobile’s Simple Choice plans that comes with built in International roaming data. If you are on $60 Simple choice plan that offers 3GB data then your data used during your abroad travel also counted in 3GB bucket. If you cross the limit, the speed throttles.
The difference between T-Mobile and AT&T is that T-Mobile offers EDGE data usage abroad while AT&T will offer LTE. T-Mobile covers 120+ countries while AT&T has coverage in 150 countries and Wi-Fi hotspot in more than 35 countries.
