Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), India’s leading telecom service provider, has planned to roll out mobile governance service “Digital Mandi” for Indian Kisaan (Farmer), in a big way to tap agricultural business sector in Orissa state. BSNL has signed a MoU with Agricultural Department of Orissa state for this purpose.
“Digital Mandi” for Indian Kisan service, new value added service (VAS) is a unique web and cell phone based multi lingual and multimodal agriculture commodity price retrieval system for farmers.It has been developed by BITCOE (BSNL and IIT-Kanpur Centre of Excellence) at IIT-Kanpur.
This service will provide alerts through SMS or voice calls to registered farmers on their mobile numbers. The alerts will be for selected mandi rates of selected crops i.e. farmers will get latest information about the local market rates of different crops and this service also assist farmers to decide correct rates and right time to sell their product.
To avail this service farmer need to register their mobile number by sending an SMS to 58484. They can register their mobile number through BSNL Live WAP Portal.
The Digial Manidi service is chargeable, one SMS alters per day for one month will cost Rs 10 and voice alert of one minute duration per day for one month will cost Rs 25.
