After the election to Parliament, the members of Parliament become entitled to certain amenities including Sansad Broadband Plans. At present, there are 552 Members of Parliament in the Lower house, Lok Sabha (LS), and the total members in the Rajya Sabha (RS) or Council of States, the Upper House of the Parliament of India are limited to 250 members.
All these MPs (LS&RS) are provided telephone facilities including other allowances and facilities with a view to enable them to function effectively as Members of Parliament.
Sansad Broadband Plans exclusively for Members of Parliament
Telephone facilities are provided by State-owned PSU BSNL/ MTNL and these PSUs have devised special Broadband plans for them and provide either copper wire or optical fiber cable (FTTH). BSNL calls them Sansad Plans. there are two Sansad Broadband plans that have the following features.
Broadband Combo Fibre SANSAD ULD1500
This plan allows 5000GB data usage at 300Mbps download speed and thereafter unlimited data usage at 10Mbps per month. The FMC for this plan is Rs 1829 (Rs 1500 for Broadband & Rs 329 for Landline)
Broadband Combo Fibre SANSAD ULD1000
This plan allows 3000GB data usage at 200Mbps download speed and thereafter unlimited data usage at 10Mbps per month. The FMC for this plan is Rs 1329 (Rs 1000 for Broadband & Rs 329 for Landline).
Landline Fibre SANSAD 449
One landline phone is also provided which allows unlimited voice calls on all networks for a fixed monthly charge of Rs 449.
The above plans are being provided to Hon’ble MPs (LS & RS) on Copper or OFC as per feasibility + with voice calling facility separately free of cost however, the Government of India pays FMC directly to MTNL/ BSNL for these telecom facilities.
Almost all telephone plans of BSNL/ MTNL provide unlimited voice calling to any network across the country however Hon’ble MPs are entitled to have three telephones without payment of installation and rental charges and 50000 local calls free during a year on each of three telephones, one at his residence or office in Delhi, one at his usual place of residence or a place selected by him in his constituency or the State in which he resides and the third telephone can be installed at either of the aforesaid places.
These 50000 free local calls can be clubbed together which comes to 150000 local calls in a year. A Member of Parliament may use any number of telephones for availing the aforesaid 150000 free local calls subject to the condition that all telephones must be in the name of MP and the installation and rental charges of additional telephones (if any) are to be borne by the MP himself.
Every MP is also entitled to have two mobile phone connections, one mobile phone connection with MTNL at Delhi and another mobile phone connection with MTNL/ BSNL, or any private mobile operator for utilization in the constituency.
The calls made from these mobile phones are adjusted from the above-mentioned 150000 free local calls available to him/her on three telephones. However, the registration and rental charges for private mobile connections are borne by the MP himself.
