Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) announced new “Zero Tolerance” policy against the unregistered tele-marketers who often take the advantage of concessional SMS offers by telecom operators. TRAI has limited the number of SMS to 100 SMS in a day per SIM card at concessional rates and beyond 100 messages, every SMS will cost minimum 50 paise.
At present, one SMS cost as less as 2 to 6 paise to a telemarketer but now onwards after implementation of new directive of TRAI, after limit of 100 SMS, mobile operator will have to charge every SMS at the minimum cost of 50 paise.
Since telemarketer uses multiple numbers for sending SMSs so TRAI has also directed mobile operators to develop a software that prevent telemarketers for sending such SMS from multiple numbers with a cap of 200 SMS in an hour with same or similar characters or strings or variants from any source or number.
TRAI has also made easy the lodging of complaints of unsolicited SMS, . Access providers will also establish a web-based complaint registering system and a dedicated e-mail address to receive such complaint,” the TRAI’s statement said.
The TRAI has also issued a diktat to take an undertaking from all new customers in the Customer Acquisition Form (CAF) that they will not use the mobile connection for sending unsolicited commercial telemarketing purpose and if the subscriber fails to adhere to this undertaking, the connection will be liable to be disconnected.
So you have to limit your SMS and if you are SMS addict you have to find alternatives of some of free SMS sites.
