Sprint today launched Wi-Fi us_wificallingcalling service feature on Android Smartphones but initially it will be available on Samsung Galaxy Mega and Galaxy S4 Mini only.

This Wi-Fi calling feature will be added to Smartphone through an over-the-air software update that will begin rolling out in next few weeks. The update notification will be pushed automatically to users.

Wi-Fi calling feature allows users to make calls and texting over a Wi-Fi connection instead of using mobile network. Sprint has boasted the benefits of Wi-Fi calling feature as enhanced coverage, easy set up, improved voice quality with unlimited voice calling and messaging service in areas with weak signal or areas where Sprint has no mobile coverage.

Sprint, in the course of time, will add Wi-Fi Calling support to other smartphones but which models are in queue, is not yet specified by the carrier.

Sprint isn’t the first carrier in US who is offering Wi-Fi calling feature instead, T-Mobile is offering this feature for free since May-2011 and its customers are enjoying free unlimited call, text and data services over W-Fi connections.
