Nepal Earthquake and good gestures by global telecom operators

The intense earthquake in Nepal has shaken the whole world and telecom companies from countries like India and USA have come forward to help affected people of Nepal and their relatives and friends by either making calls cheaper or totally free.

The latest name in the list is Sprint USA after the T-Mobile, USA , both USA’s carriers have announced that ISD calls and text messages made to Nepal by their prepaid or postpaid customers in USA for contacting their relatives or friends, would be totally free. Although both carriers announced free calls and texting today but free calling and texting feature would be applicable from 25 April to 16 May. The calls and texting made from 25 April till now will be credited to their account.

[Update] UK’s Three mobile operator have also announced today that their customer can make free calls, text to  Nepalese until 8 May 2015. The offer comes in effect from 25 April so the cost of all calls made to Nepal till date will be credited to Three’s customers in coming billing cycle.

Indian Mobile operators are also offering discounted calls or free calls from India to Nepal, as an assistance to support the earthquake disaster relief efforts and to enable their Indian customers to be in touch with their friends and families in Nepal.

Videocon Mobile is offering calls to Nepal at local call rates 90p/min

BSNL, MTNL, Vodafone, Idea, MTS and Reliance are offering calls to Nepal @Rs 1/min from 26 April to 28 April

Aircel  is offering free calls to Nepal for two days 27th and 28th April and roaming charges for their customers in Nepal is waived off for these two days

Airtel is also offering free calls to Nepal for two days 26th and 27th April
